I bought it today at my FLGS, thinking it might be an easier version or variant of the original game that I could get my wife and daughter to play. I didn't realize it was pretty much the same thing as the original but with a slightly simpler board, no plastic inserts in the game box, and plastic pieces.

Begin a quest to settle the island of Catan! Guide your brave settlers to victory by using clever trading and shrewd development. Use resources – grain, wool, ore, lumber, and brick – to build roads, settlements, cities and key cultural milestones. Get resources by rolling the dice or by trading with other players.

But beware! You never know when someone will block your way or if the robber will strike and steal your hard-earned goods! Are you the best trader, builder, or settler? Will you master Catan?

Suitable for ages 10 & up

The Family Edition is a cheaper family version of the main base game, with smaller board, simplified rules and some changes to components – the gameplay is identical and just as fun, and this is a great choice for families who will not use add on expansions. However please note the expansions for main base game are NOT compatible with this version
